George Washington, America’s first president and commander of the Continental Army during the American Revolution, was born on February 22, 1732. In his honor, today’s photo post features George Washington’s home at Mount Vernon in Virginia, 16 miles south of Washington D.C. I visited there several years ago, so there may have been renovations since the photos were taken.
I highly recommend a tour of the estate including the mansion, slave quarters, kitchen, blacksmith shop, Washington’s Tomb and the beautiful grounds and gardens. Mount Vernon is very well maintained and a walk through the mansion and on the grounds overlooking the Potomac River can take you back in time.
Loving all the posts on DC lately! I haven’t been to Mount Vernon since my fifth grade school trip to the Capital. I think it needs to be on my itinerary next time:)
It’s always interesting to see the places where great historic persons lived. Thanks.
