Jim McIntosh of Holes in My Soles has created a community forum called Magnificent Monday to “kick off the week on a high note”. Each week a theme is introduced and all are invited to share posts and photos that relate to it. This week’s theme is “Cycle of Life” which is open to many interpretations.
This is my Magnificent Monday contribution — a contrast of sunrise and sunset in the cycle of daily life, taken from the same location on the Peninsula in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The sunrise is over the East Bay Hills. Although still hidden in early morning haze, San Jose is in the distance to the right. Notice the flock of birds in the top left.
The sunset is looking north to San Francisco. The fog is rolling in from the left.
Those pics really do illustrate the daily cycle of the sun giving life to all. Nice one Cathy.
Thanks, Jim — happy to participate in your project.
Beautiful, Without the sun there is no life. great photos. ;http://jovanecatharticmusings.blogspot.com/2011/08/magnificent-monday-cycle-of-life.html
Thanks, Jan — you just added a very important point that applies to the subject!
Beautiful picture! I am a night person and I hardly see the sunrise. I think the sunrise is more beautiful these days for me. But a long time ago I used to love sunsets. Life changes the likings I guess.
Thanks! I don’t usually see the sunrises, either. I actually had to set an extra early alarm for the purpose of getting that shot!
Beautiful photos! There is majesty and mystery surrounding these two times of the day.I also linked to Jim’s Magnificent Monday and this post is very much in keeping with the theme but something I didn’t think of. Well done!
Thank you, Adriene! Glad you like the photos. I enjoyed your entry, too! 🙂
Nice photos, Cathy. I love sunrises, maybe even more than sunsets. Unfortunately I’m usually asleep for them!
Thanks, Michael! I usually sleep through the sunrises, too — unfortunately.
Very nice. Have a MM!
Thanks, Charles — hope you had a MM, too!
I love sunsets and sunrises and photograph them quite a bit. I think you showed a really good creative way of showing the cycle!!! I tweeted and stumbled

Thanks much for sharing the post. Appreciate the compliment, too!
Usually I prefer sunsets to sunrises but in this instance the sunrise looks a lot more beautiful to me. Regardless of that, both are excellent pictures.
Thanks, Bob! I know that there are a zillion sunrise and sunset pictures out there taken by much more talented photographers, but I thought they fit the topic pretty well!
Ohh, those pinks are so beautiful!
Nice shots! I always dream for a house that I can fully see sunrise & sunset.
