Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Sarnıcı) is a large water reservoir built in the 6th century. The now nearly empty cistern can be toured and is a must- see in Istanbul. Work began in 1882, and the project was taken over by Gaudi in 1883 until his death in 1926, with other architects continuing with his plan.
