It’s a hot Fourth of July in Mr. TWS’s hometown of Marinette, Wisconsin, a small city in the northern part of the state.
What, No Fireworks?
Although fireworks, parades, concerts, and other festivities are going on in many small towns and large cities across America today, there were no major events on this Fourth of July in Marinette. Instead, Marinette and its twin city of Menominee, Michigan, will be giving it a big blast on July 14th and 15th during the Logging Heritage Festival that celebrates the area’s rich lumbering history. However, the Marinette-Menominee Chamber of Commerce decided that there should be some kind of event especially for the kids to enjoy and came up with the first annual Kiddie and Pets Parade.
So I put on the sunscreen, grabbed the camera and headed to Merchants Park in downtown Marinette. Kids and dogs braved the heat and humidity to vie for prizes awarded for the best decorated bike and best dressed pet and celebrate in small town fourth of July style.
A little background music while you look at the pictures …
Born to be Wild
Holly Meyer of the Marinette-Menominee Chamber of Commerce said that she was very pleased with the turnout and that the event would be even better next year. All of the kids and dogs looked like winners to me. What do you think?
Happy Independence Day!
Sweeet! Kids and dogs are ingredients that guarantee smiles, oohs and aaahs.
Oh my, this is too adorable! I love all the patriotic outfits and decorations for both kids and pets. What a great idea for a family-friendly event. You gotta love small town America! I liked the background added video. I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July celebration, Cathy!
So cute! Living in the city, which always had a parade, I assumed there would be one everywhere. Pretty cool. Happy 4th!
These are way too fun! We had a kids parade in Kirkland yesterday as a prelude the ‘real’ parade – the kids always steal the show.
Sounds like an awesome 4th to me!
What a cute post – cute kids, cute dogs. Great event.
It does indeed look like a great way to spend the 4th! Kids are cute where ever they are.
I don’t know if the kids or the dogs are cuter – great photos! Hope you enjoyed your 4th of July!
I can’t believe even the dogs are dressed up 🙂 Very cute!
That looks like so much fun! My neighborhood does this every Fourth as well, but we are always traveling, so we always miss it!!
Thanks for linking up this week!
What a fun event! My kids would love that!
Nice parade 🙂
Cute. I can imagine how much fun those kids were having and how proud they were to be biking around with those decorations.
Thanks for your comments, all! We’re having cooler weather here in Marinette today — the kind of day that would have brought out even more kids and dogs for the event. But it was fun anyway and certainly brought a smile to my face
Wow, cool photos. I’m always curious to see how people spend the 4th of July. I’ve had some memorable ones. This year I was at a street fest in Anchorage, Alaska!
Those decorated bikes bring back childhood memories. I love a hometown 4th of July celebration!
