10 Instagram highlights of our Viking River Cruises journey on the Danube during the Christmas season.
Celebrating the Holidays on the Danube

On a walk in Munich to the Isar River and Friedensengel monument at Maximilian Park (Maximiliansanlagen), I had just crossed the Luitpold Bridge, and was looking for a way to safely cross busy Prinzregentenstrasse. Then I noticed the pedestrian tunnel under the street. What I found was more than an underground walkway. It was a showcase of street art.
Walking, walking and more walking. That’s what I like to do in cities everywhere. Sometimes you come across the unexpected like I did on my European trip last month. I found surfing in Munich!
I’m addicted to European Christmas markets! In Germany and Austria, they’re called Weihnachtsmarkts and Christkindlmarkts depending on where you are. Each market has distinct aspects and settings that highlight its individuality, but there are many similarities — festive lights, hand-made arts and crafts, food, drink, and entertainment. I love sipping Glühwein and eating bratwurst sandwiches while browsing the arts and crafts stalls and talking to the artisans amid old European settings.
Mr. TWS and I are very excited about our German/Austrian trip to kickoff the holiday season. Jetlagged as we were after arriving in Munich the other day, we ventured out into the heart of Old Town to soak up the Christmas spirit with great food and drink in a beautiful European setting as a light snow fell.
