On this particular day in Hamburg, Germany, I started out by hopping on the U-Bahn and heading to the St. Pauli district to visit Beatlemania, located at the aptly named Beatlesplatz on Reeperbahn at Große Freiheit.

A Wonderful Year of Travel
I feel very fortunate that I was able to travel as much as I did in 2011. I reached new destinations, revisited favorite cities, explored my local area, took a sentimental road trip, met fellow travel bloggers in Vancouver, left a few stories in Vegas, and fell in love with a country!
Remnants of the Berlin Wall
For those of us who grew up during the Cold War, the Berlin Wall was a stark symbol of Communist oppression in concrete and barbed wire. Living in the United States, it was difficult to imagine the lives of East Berliners, separated from their families and freedom on the other side of the wall. In November, 1989 when the wall was finally brought down, the surprising news was greeted with joyful tears and cheers around the world.
